*Washable Paper-Cloth* the Workshop

NEW  workshop, it's called: Washable Paper-Cloth

It is a Multi day Workshop

Let’s recycle paper and create art. This is an environmentally friendly class. First, we will learn how to make *washable* paper-cloth with recycled newspapers. This is my original technique to obtain a seamless integration of paper on cloth that you can iron, paint and sew by hand or by machine. We will also learn how to create our own fabric paint. It will be formulated for the exact color we want. This paint formula can then be used for matching future color projects . We will work with our own resist, do repeats and add colored backgrounds. Then we will learn how to prepare magazine clippings to easily applique by hand on to cloth. The last day we will design a small collage with the paper-cloths we made and sew accented details by hand.

This is the result of many, many years of experimentation and includes a lot of techniques, such as:

- create your own resist (economically)

- learn how to mix your own fabric paint and how to create your own color formulas which will be an invaluable reference for the future when you want to use the color you choose and not the color that chooses you! This new paint leaves a soft hand on the cloth, making it easier to sew by hand or machine.

- how to do repeats

- we will work with small pieces

- we will be sitting down for part of the processes making it easier to work...ehem play since this is a multi day class.

- we will design a small collage with some of our *new* paper-cloth fabrics.

*Gossip Blocks* the Workshop

NEW  workshop, it's called: Gossip Blocks :)

Recycle magazine clippings. This is an environmentally friendly class. We will be experimenting with a layering technique of paper and cloth to create a unique mixed media quilt block. Learn how to prepare the paper for applique. Design, cut and paste them onto cloth to form your gossip block. Apply accent stitches by hand. This is an ideal workshop for individuals who wants to explore something playful and different.

It is a 6 hour workshop.

I hope you can join me and share your time with me doing art!

A *Quilt Study*

*A quilt study with Paper, Paint and Cloth*  38" by 32"

I would like to do a new *paper, paint and cloth* quilt with a particular design I have in my mind. Because I don't know if it's going to work I have decided to do a *study* quilt.

To make my task more interesting I designed different blocks:

I had quite a few to choose from. Settle for the last two blocks. I needed to figure it out how to sew them together: find the perfect thread for piecing and for stitching in the ditch, the best machine needle, temperature of the iron, thin batting, which backing fabric, etc.

Even if you are a quilter that likes to work with only fabric you must have a practice piece, same as your final project to figure it out all these details. Well when it is a mixed media quilt you really have to take all these in consideration, specially if it's a new technique. I learned a lot!

I will work in my new quilt and will write about it here.

For now I must finish getting ready for my on-line classes at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza.

I will be teaching *Instant Paper-Cloth* and *Criss Cross Paint and Cloth*  You can read more about HERE and you can see this VIDEO

This classes has NO kits so it's open to everybody wherever you live.

I hope you will join me so we can have fun doing ART together.

Thank you for stopping by.

*BLUE* quilt - *Stitched* Celebrating the Art of Quilting

*BLUE*

To celebrate *The Art of Quilting in Memphis-Tennessee* I am participating in an event called Stitched.

The requirements are to make a stitched three layer quilt with any material but a measurement of 24" by 24". Also, it has to be predominantly in blue color.

Did anybody mention *ANY material*? Of course I took advantage of this and embarked on making the quilt you see above with paper and fabric.

For the background fabric I applied hand-lettered words to write *Blue-Azúl* . I also made brick shapes in different hues of blue.

Then, I applied my technique Infused Newsprint Cloth (INC) as part of the flower shapes.

Afterwards, simple hand stitching with thick embroidery thread was applied (the same color as my paint)

I used the *Hug Stitch* around the flowers and on top in brick shapes for texture.

Detail

As a surprise to the viewer I hid  the word blue. So while quilting the three layers together  I made sure to stop at the drawed lines which caused the letters to pop out. It will be interesting to see how many people will notice this detail :).

I will be teaching Infused Newsprint cloth in May: more details here.

My latest *Article* in Quilting Arts Magazine

My latest article was recently published in Quilting Arts Magazine August/September 2018.
I am on page 84. With this article you will learn how to
make textured embellishments with modeling paste and paint. Now you can match your embellishments, shapes and colors!!

I hope you will try this technique out and have as much fun as I did.
