Paper and Fabric *Quilt*

*Singing Birds*

Materials used: recycled magazine clippings, napkins and tissue papers.
Decorated with: Aurifil threads (28w and 12w LANA for the hand-embroidery) and seed beads for the birds wings.

The whole quilt top has been made with papers. It was my first time sewing the background  with the stitching so close together and the paper behave beautifully, just like fabric!

I made this mixed-media quilt on preparation for my Lecture and Workshop at Cumberland Valley Quilters Association this coming April 7th and April 8th, 2020.

This work was made from local papers and flyers I collected and, of course, fabric. All the appliqué has been made from two different kind of papers: transparent and opaque.
For the hand-embroidery I used Aurifil Lana thread.  I really enjoy to use the textured strands of these threads. This 50% wool thread runs smoothly up and down the paper and fabric leaving behind strong and colorful marks.

Hand Embroidery on Paper and Fabric

*BIRD*
I love the practice of hand stitching. The world turns quiet and the movement always calms me. Seeing the end result of colorful marks on my paper and fabric quilts with thick colorful threads gives me a sense of joy and accomplishment.

It is a meditative act that I've learned to love.

I try to always have at least one project at this stage so I can stop whatever I am doing and enjoy the stillness of the moment.
