A *Painted Quilt* in progress....

My new way of printing is so much fun that I have decided to print blocks (lots of them), and do a pieced quilt. I usually don’t do pieced quilts because it’s difficult for me to match the points. This time however  I decided to challenge myself and to make a simple top.

It all started by using warm colors in a 6 ½ inch white block of fabric. After they have been hand-washed (I typically wash all my painted cloth to make it soft and discard the extra pigment that has not been bond on the fabric) I trimmed them to a 5 ½ inch block.

I am thrilled to announced that my entry *Orange Blossoms* has been accepted at

If you followed my work you might read how this quilt has been made. First, I chose my color palette by mixing paint to matched my thread, you can read more: HERE, HERE, HERE. Then, the recycled newsprint has been infused in to the cloth (technique I developed and I called INC, you can read more HERE) followed by paint to complete the designs, in this case the big flowers. After the hand work was done the three layers were sewn together by my home machine.

These are wonderful news since this year they are celebrating their 40th anniversary. I am doing the happy dance.

NEW *WORKSHOPS*

*Cold Foil and Tulle..Oh My!!*

In this class we will combine foil with tulle to make an unusual fish quilt top. You will learn how to add metallic color to your fiber art with the cold foil technique, using Deco foil sheets. No need to use paint and wait for it to dry or the use of an iron to apply foil. You will also learn how to tame tulle to add delicate designs. Afterwards we will complete our project by sewing simple stitches with embroidery thread.

Hand Appliqué with Paper and Fabric*

Give new life to magazine clippings and combine them with fabric to make beautiful and unique fiber art. First, we will design your block using paper and hand-dyed fabrics. Then you will cut, fuse, and hand-stitch the pieces in place. This is a great opportunity to learn how to stitch on paper. There will be also a demonstration on how to laminate and foil the magazine clippings.

Heart of The Home *Artists Give Back*

Heart of the home is the new reader challenge organized by Quilting Arts Magazine. The idea was created by artist Jamie Fingal, asking quilters to produce a 14 by 14 inches quilt to donate to families transitioning out of homelessness into a permanent residence.
I’ve decided to make a mixed media piece with paper and fabric.

It all started by gathering materials I had on hand.

After all the pieces were ironed in place -raw edge appliqué- Hand-embroidery stitches: running stitches and French knot stitches were applied in some areas.

The white tiles you see on the base of the roof have been made following the instructions  from this article. They are easy to sew by machine. I used monofilament thread and a 75 size sewing machine needle.

The heart has been made from recycled magazine clippings following the instructions from this article. I used 50 weight cotton thread and a 75 machine needle.

The flowers have been made from sheer paper-cloth. I followed the instructions from this article.

I hope you will join me on donating your art. Deadline is December 7th, 2018.
